What is the Best Time for a Newborn Photoshoot?

A new baby is such an exciting time for your family. Every sweet smell, every sound, every tiny outfit and every snuggle deserves to be documented and remembered! Seeing your newborn photos on your wall or in your folio box will bring you back to snuggling your newborn and all fun you had learning about your new baby. You’ve already decided you want to book. But, what is the best time for a newborn photoshoot? The short answer is the best time for a newborn photoshoot can be any time between 5-21 days.

The ideal time for a newborn photoshoot is…

5-21 days is ideal, but we can sometimes get some great wrapped images after that periodWe may be able to do a newborn photoshoot before 5 days, if necessary. But, ideally, we wait until about 1-3 weeks. You, as mom, are more rested, healed, and in the groove of having a new baby. Because adding a new baby to your family is a little rough! It is an adjustment and I am hoping I can make this time just a little easier for you.

Some babies sleep soundly through their session. If your baby is in that category, great! You can get some rest while your newborn is photographed in perfect peace. Your newborn may be fussy or unsettled at the beginning of the shoot, but after a feed or diaper change end up doing well during the photo shoot itself. And still others might be very active from the start of their shoot! But all of that really depends on the baby’s temperament and how they are feeling that day.

5-21 Days is the Best Time for a Newborn Photoshoot!

So what is the best time for a newborn photoshoot? Anytime from 5-21 days is good for a newborn photoshoot. Luckily, we do have a fairly open range. When you come in for your in person consultation and planning session and book your newborn photoshoot, I will pencil you in. However, your photos session date isn’t finalized until the baby is born. You just need to make sure to call in the first few days (or delegate that task to your husband or sister or mom or anyone you trust) so that I can get you a firm date! In order to ensure that your newborn is photographed at the right age, I book only a few newborns a month. Because of this, we are usually able to photograph your newborn closer to the ideal time of 8-14 days.

Newborn photography sessions are the most magical photoshoots. Babies are so tiny, cuddly and innocent! Safe to say they are super photogenic too! A newborn session generally takes about three to four hours. This may seem like a long time, but it really goes by quickly. The reason for the longer session is because we want to make sure your baby is comfortable and safe and we get all the shots discussed in our consultation.

When should I book my newborn photoshoot?

Please keep in mind that newborns are only this tiny and perfect for a short amount of time. After this, babies start to grow and change dramatically, losing that sleepy and angelic look. If you wait too long, you may miss out on having those cute squishy newborn pictures! It is best to book a newborn photo session 2-3 months before your baby is born so you don’t miss out. If you have already had your baby, we may still be able to fit you in! To get started and book a phone consultation, fill out our contact form today!
