How Long Does a Newborn Photo Session Take?

How long does a newborn photo session take? And how much time should you set aside for your newborn baby’s first photos? A lot of parents wonder how long it will take. Should you schedule the appointment during nap times or feedings? In this blog post, we will discuss what to expect from a newborn photo session and offer tips on scheduling!

how long does a newborn photo session take?

So, how long DOES a newborn photo session take? A newborn photo session typically takes three to four hours. This allows plenty of time for diaper changes, feedings, and all the beautiful, posed photos of your newborn baby. It also allows us to capture the sweet, candid moments between you and your new little one, so that we can include these precious moments in their heirloom album.

We know that babies can be unpredictable and the 3-4 hours allows for plenty of time to photograph your newborn baby. My biggest tip for you is to schedule around your older children’s schedule! Because newborns are so sleepy and unpredictable, I‘d rather make sure the big kiddos are up for their photos and that they are in a good mood! Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about the newborn photo session process.

A typical newborn photo session may look something like this:

9 AM- Arrive with your newborn baby

Arrive with your newborn baby and anyone who you want to be in the photos. We will spend some time getting settled, changing your baby‘s diaper, and feeding your baby.

Start with some unwrapped poses of your newborn baby by herself while your older kids play and warm up. Your baby may need a few breaks to eat or have her diaper changed.  Or she may be so sleepy that we can get them all without a break! Either way is normal!

By this time, older siblings will typically be ready to have their pictures taken. We will wrap up your newborn baby and take sibling photos, family photos, mom and baby, and dad and baby.
